Spring is the perfect time to do some cleaning, organizing and refreshing—in every area of your life! Don’t forget you can also incorporate your IT resume into your spring cleaning! If you haven’t updated your resume in a while, now is the time. You never know when IT jobs will come available, so you want to be ready for them when the opportunity arises. Whether you’re a current student or are in the workforce, here are some tips to help you give your IT resume a boost this spring.
Depending on the last time you updated your resume, you may have multiple projects you’ve worked on and completed. Be sure to add them in to get this section as up-to-date as possible. Any IT staffing agency will encourage you to incorporate as many projects as you can, since employers typically look at those on your resume first to help give them an idea of your skills.
An information technology staffing agency wants to see as much work experience on your resume as possible. It’s still great to include projects outside of work, but talk briefly about other projects you accomplished to help put the company in a better situation as a result.
This is obviously important if you’re a student, but you won’t have to (and shouldn’t) update this anymore if you’ve already graduated. Many IT jobs today are hiring students almost ready to graduate just to get them some good experience and see what skills they have. Be sure to include any accomplishments, such as making the Dean’s List or any other notable achievements to further highlight your academic success.
It’s easy to get bogged down in the details of your job or IT experience. However, you have to remember potential employers won’t look at your resume very long. Incorporating extracurricular activities is especially important for students, but can be beneficial for people in the workforce as well. Show your volunteer activities, leadership roles and other experiences on your resume to give it a boost.
