The business world is rapidly advancing with the aid of new technologies in virtually every business application. As a result, leadership and automation jobs are seen as a major skills gap into the future. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.
According to the Global Human Capital Trends report from Deloitte, a survey was conducted of over 11,000 HR professionals. They found most concerning was the need for automation, new skills, and an aging workforce. In fact, 72% of those polled, when asked about automation, rated the topic of Artifical Intelligence as important or very important while 61% are currently redesigning jobs around AI and robotics. On the other hand, over 54% said they have no programs in place to build the skills of the future. Despite the aging global workforce who maintain a competitive advantage with experienced offerings, only 18% said that they offer employees opportunities for professional development.
The U.S. economy is constantly evolving, driven by technology, globalization, and changes in values. Radical new models of service delivery are expanding and emerging and significantly disrupting many occupational labor markets. The outlook of possibilities is an uncharted sea, but what is certain is that the waters will not be calm.
